Assistant Professor Matilda Backholm appeared on Yle Areena’s Efter Nio, where she discussed her research on the motion and forces of microscopically small organisms such as brine shrimp. In the Swedish‑language interview segment, she explained how her work focuses on understanding extremely small forces—down to just a few nanonewtons—and how these physical insights deepen scientific understanding of how tiny organisms move and interact with their surroundings.
Backholm’s research examines how physical forces govern behavior in soft, fluid, and biological systems, work that may inform future biomedical technologies such as micro‑scale surgical robotics. Her Yle Areena appearance offered the public an accessible introduction to these ideas and illustrated how fundamental physics can support long‑term innovation in medical and technological applications.
